One year ago today Caleb came home after 16 days in the
NICU. Rick and I had gone to visit him the night before and he had been transferred in the "holding area" for babies as the other area had become overcrowded and they needed his spot for another baby. That night as we left him all alone, it broke my heart. But no sooner had we stepped out the door, the nurse practitioner saw us and said that Caleb was going home the next day! Knowing that made the ride home much easier, and we knew our family would be complete. Although not ideal, Rick stayed home with Evan and Gage while I went alone and broke Caleb out of
NICU jail. There was a high wind advisory, so the ride home was a bit
scarey but I was so dead set on getting him out of there and reunite him with his brothers it was going to take
alot more than some wind to stop me.
So there we were, the 5 of us all home together on a Sunday, 2 days before Christmas. The boys due date was January 19, so they were born 6 weeks early, and came home 4 weeks early. They
usually say that the NICU stay will put you at or around the due date, but somehow we were lucky enough top have them home much sooner than that.
